The Hotel George - A Story of Style, Leadership & Art. The Hotel George is the first style-conscious hotel on Capitol Hill, bringing left-wing design and right-wing comfort together in harmony. Washington D.C.’s original contemporary boutique hotel, The Hotel George has a colorful story that began eight decades ago. Originally built in 1928, this historic eight story building, formerly the Bellevue Hotel, was dramatically re-sculpted, transformed and reopened in 1998 to incorporate expanses of glass, stainless steel, and fossilized coral stone.
The traditional façade was completely refashioned with two-story windows surrounded by neutral-toned limestone and augmented by a stainless steel canopy reminiscent of a theater marquee. With splashes of neo-modern contemporary design elements to enhance interior spaces and guestrooms, this sleek and sophisticated downtown Washington, DC hotel is complimented by a collection of modern artwork that illuminates our high style. The signature work in the hotel’s art collection is an oil-on-canvas portrait of George Washington by Andy Warhol protégé Steve Kaufman.

Mythical Legend Of Our DC Boutique Hotel. The name of our Washington, DC hotel is a playful homage to the first president of the United States. While the oft-told tale about our namesake chopping down the cherry tree is a myth created in1809 by Parson Weems, the fable was intended to establish George Washington as a role model - virtuous, forthright, and honest - for all Americans to follow. Today, the legend that surrounds The Hotel George is entirely true. Our DC hotel is every bit as genuine as its reputation as a fresh, hip, stylish hotel alternative on Capitol Hill. Delivering rare sophistication and highly-personalized service, our boutique hotel in Washington, DC is as a model of what every contemporary hotel experience should offer - genuine comfort, distinctive style and an honest price!
